Gevania was searching for another great songwriter, and in their travels found a wonderful composer, songwriter and singer Russell Dowsett .
As well as being a musician Russell is a builder and a teacher from the island called Bruny Is, Tasmania.
Russell has been playing guitar, writing songs and singing for many years now because when he does he is transported to mysterious places and spaces that he enjoys! His main influences are John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg & Paul Kelly but there are many other musicians and poets out there, going right back to Shakespeare and Chaucer, that inspire Russell.
His early musical experiences were on the streets of Adelaide and Canberra, busking at the Malls and footpaths at all hours of the day. Meeting people, singing songs and watching the parade of life passing by, secretly observing all that he saw.
Then in more recent times Russell took to the pubs & clubs on open mic nights, performing his favourite covers, songs like; She’s got a new Spell, I was taught by Experts & Tangled up in Blue. Occasionally, when no one was looking, he would slip in an original tune and make a connection.
Time moves on and Russell found himself, like Robinson Crusoe, living on a small island of tranquillity. With a batch of songs, reworked, fused with each other or just polished, Russell then records them in his recording studio at home and uploads them to his computer and then sends them to America, Germany, England and even as far away as Australia!
The songs that you will be able to listen to when the projects are finalized will be the results of these collaborations, people Russell has only ever met in those mysterious spaces and places mentioned earlier.
